My name is Deborah.
I was diagnosed with Relapse-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 2013.
I became a mother in 2016.
While the title of this blog is a play on being a mother with MS, neither aspect of my life define me. I am a: hippie, crafter, geek, lover, researcher, instructor, cat mother, wine drinker, and artist. I am a transplanted New Englander that has lived in Georgia for the past 10 years.
The MS diagnosis made me take stock of my life and becoming a mother forced me to reprioritize everything. Through that, I recognized that I spent the better part of 15 years with the mental mantra of: “when I have the time, I’ll eat healthily; lose weight; go after personal goals; get everything sorted and together. Once ALL that happens, I’ll be satisfied.”
I realized that waiting wasn’t getting me where I wanted to be and making my own happiness came once I took the first step towards making changes.
In July of 2017, I hatched a plan to make some serious life changes. I recognized that I may have limited time with my mobility and I wanted to model healthy habits for my son while I am able and hopefully extend my quality of life so I can enjoy his childhood.
